NEWS: 'Meander' at LDF2017

An exhibition of new work by Superfolk.

Presented by SimpleShape, at this years London's Design Festival.

22-24th September 2017.

We are really happy to present ‘Meander’: our first ever solo exhibition for London Design Festival at the ‘Simple Shape’ studio.

The exhibition which spans the last weekend of the festival, 22, 23 & 24 September, will include our new ‘Meander’ collection alongside ink-drawing on rice paper demonstrations.

Simple Shape, is a retailer of handmade, crafted homewares from around the UK & Ireland and the exhibition is part of the South East Makers Club design route.

The Meander Collection includes brushed copper and oiled black steel candle stick holders in sinuous curves as well as new printed textiles and block prints on washi paper. These will sit alongside Superfolk's iconic trivets and leather stool.

“The meandering river is the embodiment of all that is simple and beautiful in nature. The river gently navigates the landscape. Its path is constantly improving and evolving. It is calm and restless at same time. Superfolk want to bring the beauty of nature into the home. The meandering product range echoes that soft search for the sea, the gentle journey of water from source to the coast.”

Jo Anne Butler & Gearoid Muldowney, founders and designers, Superfolk

“This is the second year that Simple Shape has taken part in the London Design Festival  and being able to hold an exhibition of work by the incredible Superfolk feels pretty wonderful! I have loved Superfolk's work and their approach for a long time. They are calm designers; thoughtful, skilled and careful. The best kind. Inviting them to wend their way to South East London for LDF was a chance too good to miss.”

Helen Osgerby, Simple Shape founder & director.

Superfolk’s designers Jo Anne Butler & Gearoid Muldowney will be in the Simple Shape Studio between 12-noon and 3pm on Sat 23 & Sun 24 creating a continuous ink drawing over 20m. Using Chinese ink and natural fibre brushes they will make a single meandering line across a 20m roll of rice paper which describes the journey of a river as it searches for the coast.
