SUPERFOLK SAYS:

“This book is an outline guide to building rudimentary furniture that is empowering and liberating by allowing you to make simple, flexible furniture from inexpensive materials. This is not a step by step guidebook but more of a process and a philosophy that teaches a deeper understanding of material and structural engineering. My only wish is that I would have had this book as a teenager”.

ABOUT THIS BOOK:

This book is a project by designer Enzo Mari outlining designs for making easy-to-assemble furniture using rough boards and nails. It is not easy to translate into English the Italian word autoprogettazione. Literally it means auto = self and progettazione = design. But more than a book of design drawings this book describes Mari’s philosophy. Though elementary techniques of furniture making Enzo teaches us to look at present production with a critical eye.

The first edition of the book was compiled by the Duchamp Centre and printed for the exhibition at the Galleria Milano in 1974.

“40 years of encounters, bandying between art and books, in search of new languages, contaminations, and free experimentation”.
