We are so proud to be part of the 1% for the Planet global movement. We have now committed to giving 1% of all sales directly to environmental not-for-profit groups whose focus is the protection, preservation, and restoration of our planet. The 1% for the Planet network exemplifies the power of collective action as it brings together individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations around the world to support people and the planet. When we all work together, 1% adds up.
What does this mean for you, our customer?
This means that every time you buy from us, 1% of the total value of your order goes directly to help an environmental cause. And this is backdated to January 2021 - so if you have bought from us in 2021, you are already helping us to support important environmental work.
Why just 1% of sales?
We believe that 1% of sales is a more transparent way to give. Did you know that 1% of sales can often be greater than 10 or 20% of ‘profits’? This is because running a small business to make a profit is never easy. Also, we want our customers to know that every time you purchase from Superfolk money will go directly to help protect, preserve and restore our planet.

Is this a once-off sales promotion?
No. This is a commitment for every order, every day. 1% for the Planet was founded to prevent greenwashing, certify reputable giving, and provide accountability. The 1% for the Planet certification is given only to businesses and individuals that meet a high-bar commitment to donate 1% of annual sales or salary to environmental causes. In the words of 1 per cent for the Planet co- founder Yvon Chouinard. ‘This is not philanthropy. This should be a cost of doing business. It’s paying rent for our use of the Planet.
What non-profits in Ireland are supported by 1 per cent for the Planet?
Currently Irish Seed Savers, Burrenbeo Trust, Green Sod Land Trust, Irish Wildlife Trust, Voices of Irish Concern for the Environment and the Cork Nature Network, Friends of the Irish Environment, and Moving Mountains Trust are all supported by funds donated through the 1 per cent for the Planet network.
What other commitments are Superfolk making to our environment?
This is part of a series of commitments we have made as a business to grow slowly and sustainably, to share more of our passion for our environment with our customers, and to put our ethics into action.
We are continually refining our packaging to reduce and eliminate all plastics and waste.
We are switching and sourcing materials and suppliers so that you can choose sustainably sourced products and materials.
We have committed to learning, writing, and sharing more of what we learn and know about the delicate eco-systems and habitats
Our desire is not only to help environmental organizations financially but to use our skills as designers, artists, and storytellers to attract attention and awareness to causes and organizations that are doing good work and need greater support.
